CB7 Land Use Committee to consider new proposal for 95 West 95th Street

May 13, 2010 - At its biweekly Review Session held on Monday, May 10, the New York City Planning Commission deferred action on a proposal to redevelop "Columbus House" located at 95 West 95th Street, based upon objections from Community Board 7 and the developer's request for more time to meet those objections.
Therefore on Wednesday, May 19, the CB7 Land Use Committee will hear public testimony on a second proposal to enlarge the first and second stories of "Columbus House" for commercial and community facility uses. The building stretches along Columbus Avenue between 95th and 96th Streets and currently houses four businesses, including Columbus Natural Food.
Citizens can anticipate an opportunity for public testimony on this second proposal at the CB7 Full Board Meeting slated for Tuesday, June 1, and the consideration of CB7's second resolution on the proposal at the City Planning Commission's biweekly Review Session scheduled for Monday, June 7.
The City Planning Commission has already approved proposals for two-story enlargements at the base of both Leader House at 100 West 93rd Street (Columbus Avenue) and the Axton at 721 Amsterdam Avenue (96th Street). Look for an examination in an upcoming issue of the Weekly Participant of the amendments to the New York City Zoning Resolution that will make even more similar proposals within the former West Side Urban Renewal Area likely in the near future.
